Terms of Reference
Chinese Language Interface Advisory Committee (CLIAC)
To advise the Deputy Government Chief Information Officer (Operation) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on:
- the submission of local characters for Chinese computer systems to the International Organization for Standardization and the follow-up of the related issues;
- the promotion of the adoption of the ISO 10646 standard in Hong Kong;
- the co-ordination in connection with the need for local characters for Chinese computer systems of different sectors in Hong Kong; and
- the management of the Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set.
Working Group on Characters for Chinese Computer Systems
- To validate local characters for Chinese computer systems and formulate guidelines for such validation, including :
- development of guidelines and recommendation on the criteria for inclusion of characters into the Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set; and
- validation of local characters for inclusion into the Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set and assignment of codes for the characters.
- To consolidate the collection of local characters for Chinese computer systems for submission to the International Organization for Standardization.
Working Group on Chinese Information Processing
- To advise on the technical issues arising from the adoption of the ISO 10646 standard.
- To facilitate local hardware and software vendors in the development of ISO 10646-enabled Chinese applications.
- To promote the use of ISO 10646-enabled Chinese applications.
- To advise on the technical issues (including guidelines for code assignment), the development of hardware and software, and the promotion in respect of the adoption of the Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set.
