ICT Outreach Programme for the Elderly 2013-14

Background

In 2013-14, the OGCIO provided funding to organise outreach programmes for elderly with limited mobility and hidden elderly to arouse their awareness of and interest in using ICT to broaden their social circles and improve their quality of life.

The OGCIO openly invited non-profit organisations to submit proposals in October 2013. Out of the seven project proposals received, three were selected for implementation from March 2014 to December 2014.

Thirty-eight elderly homes throughout the territory were visited with over 1 000 elderly persons served via these projects. Outreach visits, in particular, were arranged for hidden elderly in the community. With the help of social workers and volunteers, some 120 hidden elderly persons had learnt the use of ICT to improve their quality of life and connect to the society.
