Information Infrastructure Advisory Committee established
September 5, 1998
The Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau announced today (Saturday) the setting up of the Information Infrastructure Advisory Committee and the appointment of committee members by the Chief Executive for a term up to July 31, 2000.
The committee's main terms of reference are to advise the Government on the policy, regulatory, technical and other related issues in the following areas :
- the further development and enhancement of the physical communications infrastructure in Hong Kong;
- the development of an open, common interface mounted on established communication networks through which individuals, business and government can interact easily and securely using their own systems;
- the development of applications which make effective use of the common interface;
- the formulation of Hong Kong's position at, and contribution to, international and regional fora on issues relating to the global and regional information infrastructure and electronic commerce; and
- the promotion of community awareness and creative use of information technology.
The committee is chaired by the Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting. Members include leading personalities from the IT and telecommunications fields, academia, business as well as representatives from the Government. The following is a full list of members :
