SITB to visit US, Canada

The Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, Mr K C Kwong, is leaving today (Saturday) for a 10-day visit to the United States and Canada.
He will first fly to San Francisco where he will meet with some of the companies in the Silicon Valley which have signed letters of intent to become anchor tenants at the Cyberport (e.g. Sybase and Cisco Systems).
He will also visit the PricewaterhouseCooper Global Technology Centre, for discussions on research on e-commerce and application of IT in living; and have dinner with the Board of Directors of the recently launched HongKong-Silicon Valley High Tech Community.
He will then visit Seattle for meetings with IT companies there, including Microsoft.
Mr Kwong will fly to Vancouver, Canada, on November 4. While in the city, he will call on Mr Gilbert Normand, Secretary of State for Science, Research and Development; and Mr Kevin Lynch, Deputy Minister of Industry.
He will also officiate at the opening ceremony of the IT seminars cum Hong Kong IT Forum jointly organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) and the HK-Canada Business Association; and visit a number of high tech companies, including the IBM Canada.
Mr Kwong is scheduled to return to Hong Kong on November 10.
