Y2K Compliance Status for Telecommunications Users
November 18, 1999
Telecommunications users in Hong Kong can now find out the current Year 2000 (Y2K) compliance status of telecommunications service providers through the Internet.
A spokesperson for the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) said the most recent update in the Y2K status of telecommunications service providers could be viewed at OFTA's homepage at http://www.ofta.gov.hk.
"Y2K compliance is an important aspect of the service quality provided by telecommunications operators. Consumers are encouraged to visit our website to find out the latest Y2K position of their telecommunications service providers in order to take precautionary actions where necessary. Our Y2K page is updated as soon as we receive the latest report from operators," said the spokesperson.
As at mid November 1999, all telecommunications network operators and the vast majority of service providers in Hong Kong, including all the major ones, are already fully Y2K compliant.
