Opening Remarks by Mr K H Lau, Director of Information Technology Services at the Opening Ceremony of Information Technology Solution Centre on 26 - 7 - 1999

Mr Kwong and honoured guests,

I am pleased to welcome you to this opening ceremony of the new Information Technology Solution Centre.

The new Information Technology Solution Centre, in short ITSC, is the focal point for you to access the latest IT information and news, and to avail you of the various opportunities to make the best use of IT in your business.

The new ITSC has started a new initiative by collecting useful IT news and solution information, and disseminating our findings through various means such as the ITSC newsletter as well as the technology and product surveillance reports. It will continue to research on off-the-shelf application packages available in the market and maintains a database for users' access.

The new ITSC will continue to organise regular IT seminars and exhibitions to keep all of us abreast of the new technologies and products, as well as useful ideas of advanced IT deployment opportunities that can improve your business processes and efficiency.

In the showroom of the new ITSC, we have made available facilities for demonstration software to help solve your business and office problems. They are ready-made software that can be implemented speedily. We shall be organising in the coming months a series of software demonstration in the showroom. You are most welcome to visit the showroom, shop for the IT solutions and try them out. We also welcome any consultation inquiries and suggestions.

The new ITSC will also house in its showroom the advanced technologies and the new tools for development to enable trial-use and prototype building. We would like to encourage you to make full use of these services and to share your experience with colleagues in other bureaux and departments.

ITSD is taking a proactive approach to promoting the wider use of IT in government. The opening of the new ITSC marks our aggressive IT promotion initiative. Your suggestions and comments will be most useful to our continuous improvement.

Last but not least, I would like to congratulate my staff who have made strenuous efforts in setting up the new ITSC. I am sure they will continue to provide client focused services to you all. I do hope that their efforts will be instrumental in helping to develop a business and working environment in government to fully exploit the IT opportunities abound in the Information Age.
