Roving show on Electronic Service Delivery scheme
02 - 01 - 2000

With the launch of the new millennium, the second round of the roving show on the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) scheme will roll out at major and popular shopping centres in Hong Kong from Tuesday (January 4).

Jointly organised by the Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau and the Information Technology Services Department, the roving show is held to introduce and promote the ESD scheme to members of the public.

The ESD scheme is one of the major initiatives under the "Digital 21" Information Technology Strategy of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Through the ESD scheme, public services will be delivered through the Internet and other electronic means 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

Ten government departments and public agencies have joined the scheme, of which the first phase is scheduled to be launched in October this year.

With the implementation of the ESD scheme, members of the public can pay taxes, renew driving and vehicle licences, seek job vacancy information, register as voters, make appointments for identity card registration and many others, at home or places convenient to them through electronic means.

The second round of the ESD scheme roving show will be staged at six shopping centres in Central, Causeway Bay, Sham Shui Po, Diamond Hill, Sha Tin and Tuen Mun, as well as at Lingnan University between January 4 and February 2.

At the roving show, there will be information kiosks with ESD simulation software to explain and demonstrate some of the services to be provided to allow members of the public to experience the ease of use and convenience offered by the ESD scheme.

A video and display panels will be presented to introduce the general concept of the ESD scheme, and leaflets and CD-ROMs on the scheme will be distributed.
