Fourth round of Electronic Service Delivery Scheme roving show
16 - 12 - 2000

In the month starting next Monday (December 18), members of the public visiting various government offices will be able to understand more about how they can obtain public services through the Internet and other electronic means.

Following the launch of the Internet version of the Electronic Service Delivery Scheme last Saturday (December 9), the fourth round of the ESD roving show will be held at four Government Offices and two departmental offices from next Monday.

The roving show is jointly organised by the Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau and the Information Technology Services Department to promote the benefits and convenience brought about by the ESD Scheme.

The ESD Scheme is one of the major initiatives under the "Digital 21" Information Technology (IT) Strategy of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Through the ESD Scheme, public services are delivered through the Internet and other electronic means 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Currently, more than 60 types of electronic public services such as payment of government fees, submission of tax return, renewal of driving and vehicle licences, voter registration and change of personal address are available through a single portal.

The fourth round of the roving show will be staged at government offices in Wan Chai, Ho Man Tin, North Point, Admiralty, Tsuen Wan and Cheung Sha Wan between 18 December 2000 and 19 January 2001 at office opening hours.

At the show, information kiosks will be set up at which explanations and simulations of the ESD services will be available in order that members of the public can experience the convenience and ease of use offered by the ESD Scheme.

As well as using display panels, a video will be presented to introduce the general concept of the ESD Scheme, and leaflets introducing the scheme will also be distributed.

The schedule of the roving show is as follows:

- at G/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, on 18-21 December 2000;

- at G/F, Ho Man Tin Government Offices, 88 Chung Hau Street, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon, on 2-5 January 2001;
