ITSD awarded second ISO 9001 certification
19 - 12 - 2000

The Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) has been awarded its second internationally recognised ISO 9001 certification.

The department's Central Computer Centre (CCC) Helpdesk has implemented the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and achieved the certification status without any non-conformity.

In a presentation ceremony held today (December 19), the ITSD was presented with three ISO 9001 certificates for the CCC Helpdesk issued by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA), the British Standards Institution and the International Certification Network respectively.

The CCC Helpdesk is the second service unit of the ITSD to receive the ISO 9001 certification, following the one obtained by the department's professional support services in 1998.

In support of the various services of the ITSD, the CCC Helpdesk operates round-the-clock and provides a one-stop helpdesk service to all users of the ITSD data centre as well as all desktop computer users in government bureaux and departments.

The CCC Helpdesk also serves as a central agent monitoring the smooth running of the Government Backbone Network connecting all bureaux and departments.

Speaking in the presentation ceremony today, the Director of Information Technology Services, Mr Lau Kam-hung said, "The award of these certificates is a tribute to the teamwork, enthusiasm and no little hard work which our colleagues bring to their work."

"These certificates provide concrete evidence of our dedication to excellence in the provision of all of our services.

"It has always been our goal to provide a high quality environment for the delivery of excellent services and our Helpdesk is one illustration of how we fulfill our objective," said Mr Lau.

The Chairman of the HKQAA, Dr T L Ng, who presented the ISO 9001 certificates today, said, "With exceptional leadership and teamwork, the ITSD is one of the pioneers of ISO 9001 certification in government sector."

"I am sure that the ITSD's success in achieving the ISO 9001 certificates will motivate and encourage a wider adoption of the quality management systems in other government departments, as well as to set an example of quality management system good practices to the IT-related industries in Hong Kong," said Dr Ng.
