IT industry briefed on government tendering procedures
25 - 04 - 2001

More than 300 representatives from the local information technology (IT) industry were briefed on the procedures of government tendering today (April 25).

The briefing was organised by the Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) with a view to providing the local IT industry with information on the government tendering of IT services.

"The Government has adopted an aggressive outsourcing strategy for the provision of IT services within Government with the objectives of enlarging the delivery capacity of IT services and stimulating the development of the local IT industry," said a spokesman for the ITSD.

"We encourage the local IT industry, in particular the small and medium-sized enterprises, to bid for government IT tenders.

"By providing the local IT companies with information on government procedures for tendering IT services and the facilitation measures introduced, we expect that more local IT companies will participate in bidding for government IT tenders," said the spokesman.

In today's briefing, the participants were briefed of the procedures for bidding government IT tenders, the measures to facilitate the bidding for government IT tenders, the Electronic Tendering System, and related successful cases.

Representatives from the ITSD, Government Supplies Department and an IT company were guest speakers in the briefing.
