A forum giving an impetus to information technology (IT)
researchers to commercialise their research results will be
held in mid-June.
The "Tripartite Forum on Commercialisation of IT Research
Results 2001", to be held on June 19, provides a converging
point for establishing partnership between IT researchers
and the business sector.
Jointly organised by the Information Technology Services
Department (ITSD), the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation
and the Hong Kong Venture Capital Association Limited, the
annual Forum is held the third time and is also supported
by the Hong Kong Productivity Council this year.
"The Tripartite Forum is intended to foster partnership between
IT researchers and the business sector," said a spokesman
for the ITSD today (June 12).
"IT industrialists and investment professionals will be able
to meet, share views and experience over the commercialisation
of IT research results in the Forum.
"Academics are also provided with an opportunity to transform
their IT research results into applications with the necessary
support from the industry.
"The two previous forums held in 1999 and 2000 were both
successful and well-received," said the spokesman.
Six local universities - the Chinese University of Hong Kong,
City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University,
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University
of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong
- will participate in the Forum.
Besides, some local IT industry players are also invited
to present their research projects.
A total of 15 selected researches which represent some of
the most innovative IT development in Hong Kong will be presented
at the Forum.
The topics include mobile technology, video technology, imaging
technology, e-business, education and home automation.
Academics, IT industry practitioners and investment professionals
are invited to participate in the Forum which will be held
at the Hong Kong City Hall theatre, Central, Hong Kong, between
2 pm and 5.30 pm on June 19.
Seats can be reserved on-line at the "Digital 21" web site
