Seventh cycle of ESD scheme roving show

The seventh round of the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) scheme
roving show will be staged at various shopping arcades from
today (December 8) to enable members of the public to familiarise
themselves with the ESD services.
This round of the roving show will focus on introducing the
ESD services of live broadcast of road traffic condition and
electronic payment of government bills.
The Office of Telecommunications Authority and the Hongkong
Post will also participate in some of the roving shows to showcase
broadband facilities and mobile digital certificates respectively.
Jointly organised by the Information Technology and Broadcasting
Bureau and the Information Technology Services Department, the
roving show will be staged at five shopping arcades and one
government building from today until January 22, 2002 to promote
the benefits and convenience brought about by the ESD scheme.
The ESD scheme is one of the major initiatives under the "Digital
21" Information Technology (IT) Strategy of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region.
Under the ESD scheme (http://www.esd.gov.hk),
members of the public can obtain a wide range of public services
through the Internet and public kiosks 24 hours a day and seven
days a week. The scheme won a first prize in the Stockholm Challenge
Award in Sweden earlier this year.
Currently, more than 100 types of public services offered by
more than 30 government departments and public agencies are
available through a single portal. Since its launch, citizens
have used the scheme to perform over 1 million transactions
electronically.
ESD public kiosks will be set up at the roving show where simulations
of the ESD services will be available for members of the public
to experience how public services can be easily and conveniently
obtained on-line.
In addition to using display panels, a video will be presented
to introduce the general concept of the ESD scheme. Information
leaflets introducing the scheme will also be distributed.
The schedule of the roving show is as follows:
- from 12 noon to 8 pm today and from 11 am to 8 pm on December
9-10 at Interface C, Lok Fu Shopping Centre I, Lok Fu;
- from 11 am to 8 pm on December 14-16 at Foyer I, Level III,
Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill;
- from 9 am to 6 pm on December 19-21 at G/F, North Point Government
Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point;
- from 11 am to 8 pm on January 5-7, 2002 at G/F, Sheung Tak
Shopping Centre, Tseung Kwan O;
- from 11 am to 8 pm on January 11-13, 2002 at Level One "Fantasy
Island", Maritime Square, Tsing Yi; and
- from 12 noon to 8 pm on January 20, 2002 and from 11 am to
8 pm on January 21-22 at Zone C, Tuen Mun Town Plaza, Tuen Mun.
Since June 1999, six rounds of the ESD scheme roving shows have
been held at various KCR stations, MTR stations, shopping centres,
shopping arcades in public housing estates and government offices.
