HK to send high-level delegation to APEC Ministerial Meeting in Shanghai

Hong Kong will send a high-level delegation to attend the 5th APEC Ministerial Meeting on Telecommunications and Information Industry (TELMIN5) in Shanghai between May 28 - 30.

The Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, Mrs Carrie Yau Tsang Ka-lai, will lead the Hong Kong, China delegation, accompanied by Director General of Telecommunications, Mr Anthony Wong.

Other members of the delegation included leaders and professionals from the telecommunications and information technology sectors .

Speaking on the upcoming meeting in Shanghai, Mrs Yau said today (May 26) that the theme for TELMIN5 would be leveraging digital opportunities to promote common development among APEC economies.

"We expect the meeting to be an excellent venue for our delegates to seize digital opportunities by enhancing exchange of ideas and mutual co-operation with government and business leaders amongst APEC economies," she said.

The four main topics selected for discussion in TELMIN5 are:

* Information infrastructure development;
* Telecommunications policy and market regulation;
* Information and network security; and
* Human capacity building.

Mrs Yau and Mr Wong will each give a keynote address at the Ministerial Meeting. Mrs Yau will also hold bilateral meetings with the Ministry of Information Industry of China and with Department of State, National Telecommunications and Information Administration, and Federal Communications Commission of the US.

After the meeting, Mrs Yau will attend the Asia IT Ministers' Summit in Seoul, South Korea on June 1. About 18 economies in the region will attend the Summit which aims at strengthening regional co-operation in the promotion of IT.
