The Permanent Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology (Information Technology and Broadcasting), Mr Francis Ho,to Visit Kuala Lumpur
The Permanent Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology (Information Technology and Broadcasting), Mr Francis Ho, will leave tomorrow (September 5) for a three-day visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Mr Ho will attend the Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Awards (APICTA) 2002 as the patron and advisor of a Hong Kong delegation participating in the event.
Other members of the delegation include the Director of Information Technology Services, Mr Alan Wong, and the President of the Hong Kong Computer Society, Mr Daniel Lai.
In Kuala Lumpur, Mr Ho will call on the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy, Communications and Multimedia of Malaysia, Datuk Dr Halim Shafie, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, Dr Hashim Hassan. They will exchange views on the development of information technology and telecommunications in Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Mr Ho will also be visiting the Multimedia Super Corridor, where he will be briefed on the long-term development of information and communications technologies and multimedia in Malaysia.
The APICTA, an annual event first organised last year in Malaysia, provides a platform for innovators and entrepreneurs in the information and communication technologies sectors in Asia to benchmark their innovative products.
The Award is also aimed at stimulating the economic and trade relations and technology transfer among participating economies. It also provides business matching opportunities for participating enterprises.
Hong Kong's participation in APICTA 2002 is jointly co-ordinated by the Hong Kong Computer Society and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
There are altogether eight entries from Hong Kong this year under five different categories, namely, health, security, e-government and services, business applications and e-commerce.
