Ninth cycle of the ESD Scheme roving show

Members of the public can obtain information on the latest development and new services of the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) Scheme in the ninth round of the ESD roving show that will be staged at various MTR stations from tomorrow (March 10).

This cycle of the roving show will showcase topics covering the ESD Scheme, the new Smart Identity Card and information security.

The ESD Scheme is one of the major E-government initiatives under the "Digital 21" Information Technology Strategy of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Under the ESD Scheme ( http://www.esd.gov.hk ), citizens can now obtain more than 140 types of public services through the Internet and public kiosks 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

Since its launch in December 2000, the ESD web site has recorded more than 2.9 million transactions. Recent transaction statistics indicate that citizens are progressively seeing the benefits of doing transactions on-line.

Jointly organised by the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau and the Information Technology Services Department, the roving show will be staged at six MTR stations until April 24 to promote the benefits and convenience brought about by the ESD Scheme.

ESD public kiosks will be set up at some of the show venues where simulations of the ESD services will be available for members of the public to experience how public services can be easily and conveniently obtained on-line. A video will be shown to introduce the general concept of the ESD Scheme and informative leaflets and souvenirs will be distributed.

Members of the public can also participate in a computer quiz to test their knowledge of the new Smart Identity Card.

The roving show will be open from 11 am to 8 pm during the show period. The schedule of the roving show is as follows:

- from March 10 to 11 at the Admiralty Station;

- from March 13 to 14 at the Hong Kong Station;

- from March 22 to 23 at the Lam Tin Station;

- from April 5 to 6 at the Taikoo Station;

- from April 12 to 13 at the Kowloon Tong Station; and

- from April 23 to 24 at the Tsuen Wan Station.

Since June 1999, eight rounds of the ESD Scheme roving shows have been held at various KCR stations, MTR stations, shopping centres, shopping arcades in public housing estates and government offices.
