OGCIO helps to promote the awareness and understanding of IT and its applications through active promotion programmes. The OGCIO provides support and services in promoting and facilitating the wider use of IT in the community. Working in close partnership with the local IT industry and with the academic and professional bodies, OGCIO promotes the use of new and emerging technologies in the community. Some major tasks include:
- Organising various promotion campaigns to encourage the wider use of e-government services.
- Participating in various exhibitions and seminars to promote ICT Strategy and e-government services to the community.
- Promoting web accessibility to the public by organising seminars.
- Providing IT appreciation training.
- Promoting information security.
- Supporting the IT Hong Kong Campaign and organising activities to promote IT awareness and wider use of IT in the community.
- Co-organising IT awareness programmes for the elderly and the disabled.
- Sponsoring Inter-Primary Schools Quiz and other IT promotion activities.
- Supporting the Digital 21 web site, a dedicated channel through which the HKSAR Government disseminates information and progress related to the Digital 21 IT Strategy.
- Facilitating industry liaison and promoting IT in the business sector.
- Cooperating with non-government organisation and private sector in the administration of Digital Solidarity Fund.
