To enable youngsters to make good use of the Internet to realise their full potential, improve quality of life and promote the development of the information society, the Financial Secretary earmarked $63 million in his Budget of 2009-10 to sponsor a one-year territory-wide Internet education campaign to promote the safe and healthy use of the Internet among youngsters, their parents and teachers.
In early 2009, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) through open expression of interest exercise, sponsored the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups as the central coordinator, together with a further 13 non-government organisations as district coordinators, to be responsible for implementation of the "Be NetWise" one-year territory-wide Internet education campaign. Launched in September 2009, the Campaign will commission a series of promotion and education activities, including carnivals, seminars and workshops, multimedia contest, educational games, home visit, resource centre and support centre, etc., across the territory in the coming year.
