SITB leaves on IT/telecommunications visit

The Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, Mr K C Kwong, will leave Hong Kong for Finland (Helsinki) and the United Kingdom (London) tomorrow (Tuesday) for discussions in the fields of information technology and telecommunications in the two countries.

During his three-day stay in Helsinki, from September 1 to 3, Mr Kwong will meet the Minister of Transport and Communications. He will also speak to Finnish business representatives at a dinner reception and visit the Helsinki University of Technology, the National Technology Agency and some technology companies in Finland.

While in London, from September 6 to 8, Mr Kwong will meet the Minister of State (with responsibility for Small Business and e-Commerce), the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Department for Education and Employment (with responsibility for Information and Communications Technology), the Chief Scientific Adviser and Head of Office of Science and Technology, and the Director General of the Research Councils.

He will make a luncheon presentation to the information technology industry, and address members of the Hong Kong Association on the latest developments in the information technology and telecommunication fields in Hong Kong. He will also take the opportunity to visit some technology companies in the UK.

Mr Kwong will return to Hong Kong on September 9.
