GCIO to lead ICT delegation to Australia

9 November 2008

The Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Jeremy Godfrey, will tomorrow (November 10) lead a delegation from the information and communications technology (ICT) industry for a five-day visit to Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney in Australia.

The visit aims to foster ICT co-operation with Australia and raise Hong Kong’s profile in the ICT arena.

During the visit, Mr Godfrey will attend seminars organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council for the local trade associations in the respective cities. He will share views on how Hong Kong can act as a gateway to the Mainland and become Australia’s best partner to tap into the huge ICT market, and how Hong Kong and the Mainland can complement each other to become a destination for software outsourcing.

Mr Godfrey will call on a number of government departments in Australia. He will also take the opportunity to witness the signing of Memorandum of Understandings between the industry bodies of Hong Kong and Australia to facilitate further ICT collaboration and trading between the two places.

The delegation will visit a number of leading ICT companies to gain a better understanding of latest ICT development in Australia. Business matching meetings will also be arranged for the Hong Kong companies to network with their potential Australian partners and explore business opportunities.

The delegation will return to Hong Kong on Friday (November 14).
