Technology Resources Management and Promotion

Information Technology Innovation Section (ITIS), Information Technology Solution Centre (ITSC) and Information Technology Development Centre (ITDC)

The OGCIO advises Government bureaux and departments on the use of information technology to improve the quality of service and operational efficiency. The ITIS facilitates Government departments' access to the latest technologies and products, keeping them abreast of the latest developments; and provides useful solutions and alternatives for advanced IT deployment:

1. IT facilities

Government officers can visit the ITSC for hands-on trial and demonstration of IT products and solutions, and use the development facilities of ITDC for prototyping and testing of concepts to speed up the system development.

2. IT publication

Government officers can obtain wide-spectrum of updated information on IT through our Intranet web site and newsletters.

3. IT promotion events

Conferences, exhibitions, seminars, workshops, and discussion forums for various IT areas on different scales are conducted to enable Government officers to acquire new ideas and to share their views with peers and suppliers.

4. Thematic campaigns for IT adoption and awareness

Making use of the above mechanisms and lining up with the industry and academia, the campaigns focus on specific technologies / practices / knowledge that are applicable to Government departments, to equip Government officers and arouse their awareness of new technologies.

The ITSC and ITDC serve as the window that opens to the IT industry and the academia for bringing in advanced IT products, solutions and technologies. Through such collaboration, we identify and develop cost-effective solutions to meet the changing needs of business and to leverage the latest technology offerings. In maintaining a knowledge base of product and technology information provided by IT suppliers, we welcome IT suppliers to register in the IT Promotion Database and supply information about their IT products and solutions of interest to users in the Government.

Adoption of Wireless and Mobile Services and Technologies

The Government will widely adopt wireless and mobile services and technologies in providing its services to the public and improving operational efficiency. Under the Task Force on Promotion of Wireless Services and Technology, the Government will collaborate with the Hong Kong Wireless Development Centre to promote the wider adoption of wireless and mobile services and technologies in the Government.
