Practice guide on procuring cloud services for Hong Kong and Guangdong published (with photos)

The Hong Kong/Guangdong Expert Committee on Cloud Computing Services and Standards announced the publication of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Practice Guide for Procuring Cloud Services at the Third Guangdong/Hong Kong Cloud Computing Conference held in Shenzhen today (December 5).

Speaking at the conference, the Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Daniel Lai, said, "The Practice Guide aims to assist organisations, especially small and medium enterprises, in both Hong Kong and Guangdong to appreciate the benefits brought about by cloud computing, and understand how to assess and handle issues arising from the adoption of cloud computing in businesses."

Compiled by a task force established under the Expert Committee, the Practice Guide covers nine key areas on procurement of cloud services, for example, service level, security management and privacy protections, contracting (terms of service) and service default.

"We hope that the Practice Guide will serve as a valuable reference for the development of cloud service standards under the national cloud computing standardisation framework," Mr Lai added.

About 300 cloud computing experts and industry players from Hong Kong and the Mainland attended the conference today.

The conference, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited and the Guangdong Software Industry Association, provides a platform for industry leaders to exchange views on the latest trends in cloud computing and foster the development and adoption of cloud services in Hong Kong and Guangdong.

The Hong Kong/Guangdong Practice Guide for Procuring Cloud Services (Chinese version) is now available on the InfoCloud portal (www.infocloud.gov.hk/en/gdhk_practice_guide.html).
