OGCIO reminds B/Ds to adopt latest standards in procurement of ICT products

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) today (March 2) issued a circular memorandum to all bureaux/departments (B/Ds), advising them when arranging procurement of information and communications technology (ICT) products, they must adopt the latest relevant international ISO standards and national GB standards should they require to specify information security related standards.

A spokesman of the OGCIO said, "The Government attaches great importance to information security and has formulated a set of comprehensive Government IT Security Policy and Guidelines for compliance by all B/Ds. With immediate effect, if certain technical specifications are required to be specified for procurement of ICT products, B/Ds should include related international and national IT security standards to facilitate the selection of optimal information security products in order to ensure the effective protection of government system and data security."

The spokesperson added that the OGCIO has all along reminded all B/Ds to use ICT products from different sources, to better manage cybersecurity and information security risk caused by individual manufacturers and devices.

The OGCIO is also updating the IT security standards in the Standing Offer Agreement for the Supply of Network Products and Server Systems to include latest international ISO standards and national GB standards.
