Programme Requirements on the Elective Subjects

Programme Minimum Grade
BSc (Hons) in Computer Science
  • Any HKDSE elective subjects, including Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2).
  • For students who have attained a 5* or above in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or Mathematics in HKDSE, they will be guaranteed for admission to BSc (Hons) in Computer Science in Year 2.
BSc (Hons) in Business Computing and Data Analytics
  • Any HKDSE elective subjects, including Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2).
  • Applied Learning Subjects (Category B) with "Attained with Distinction (I)" or above will be recognised as an unspecified elective subject.
  • Other Languages Subjects (Category C) will not be recognised.
BBA (Hons) Information Systems and Business Intelligence Concentration
  • Any HKDSE elective subjects, including Extended Part of Mathematics (Module 1 or Module 2).
  • Applied Learning Subjects (Category B) with "Attained with Distinction (I)" or above will be recognised as an unspecified elective subject.

School of Business

Programme Structure

Under a 4-year curriculum, HKDSE students who are interested in studying IT-related programmes can select to admit to the Faculty of Science or the School of Business. For Faculty of Science, admitted students will have a broad-based education in science in the first year. In the second year, students will be admitted to BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (government-funded) and study computer science core courses. For the third and fourth years, this programme is designed with four related concentrations of study: (i) Artificial Intelligence (AI), (ii) Computing and Software Technologies (CST), (iii) Data and Media Communication (DMC) and (iv) Information Systems and Analytics (ISA). AI concentration is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of AI and Machine Learning (ML) to participate in AI-related projects using computational methods. CST concentration equips students with concepts, principles and practices of computing and software technologies to contribute to technological innovations. ISA concentration equips students with knowledge and practices of information systems design, development and integration, as well as information analytics skills for creative applications in real-world organizations. DMC is an interdisciplinary concentration co-offered with the Department of Journalism, School of Communication. It emphasises both data analytics and journalistic principles and skills for media organisations as well as related industries. Students will determine their concentrations of study in Year 3 Semester 1. For School of Business, students can select BBA (Hons) Information Systems and e-Business Management Concentration (government-funded). Students can also select BSc (Hons) in Business Computing and Data Analytics (government-funded) which is jointly offered by School of Business and Department of Computer Science.

BSc (Hons) in Business Computing and Data Analytics

All students are required to either go on international exchange, or attend internship. Students are able to gain work experience in Fintech and data analytics through internship opportunities.

 

BBA (Hons) Information Systems and Business Intelligence Concentration

The local and overseas internship opportunities offered by the University and the School of Business give students hands-on work experiences in various fields. Business-related internship can enhance students' competitiveness for employment and future advancement. Over 60% of BBA students have participated in 1 to 3 local / overseas internship programmes during their 4-year university life. ISBI students can also enroll ISEM 3026 ISEM Internship to complete a work assignment in relevant industries under the guidance of both faculty and workplace supervisors; and earn three credit units at the same time.
