Drugstores
The objective of the project was to establish a Central Drugs Repository (CDR) so as to facilitate the master data alignment of pharmaceutical products between drug retailers, distributors and manufacturers. Target goals of the project were:
- To lower the entry barriers of SME drugstores in adopting electronic point of sales (ePOS) technologies to manage business operations;
- To improve accuracy and increase transparency of drug products in the pharmaceutical supply chain;
- To improve the rate of drugstores using IT system and get information through the internet;
- To increase the number of drugstores to be computerized.
The project developed an online drugs database for the traditional pharmacies. The CDR was designed to provide a secure, open, aligned and assured source of data that was not commercially sensitive. The repository would offer a source of data that could be used in separate working catalogues of data for use in processing clinical and commercial transactions.
The CDR contained the major attributes on a drug record, such as HK registration number, HK drugs forensic classification, brand name and label name, drug form code (e.g. solution, tablet), active ingredients, precautions, dosage / date product marketed, date product ceased, date last batch expires, etc.
