Medical and Health

The project developed a clinic management system (CMS), which standardized and automated the clinical operation for the private medical practitioners (PMPs), and conducted a series of workshop training to the PMPs.

The objective of the project was to help the PMPs to acquire practical IT skills and understand the benefits of IT usage in their work.

Upon completion of the project, the PMPs were expected to enhance their standard of the medical profession by integrating the CMS with other clinic management, such as exchanging information with the Electronic Health Record (eHR) system.

The CMS developed was an open source software (OSS) and was available free-of-charge for the public.  As an OSS, any interested parties were able to provide maintenance service and introduce further enhancement to the software application so as not to lock the development of the product.  The CMS possessed the cross-platform capability among various computer operation systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, etc.) and was client-server based (i.e. could be run locally in clinic).  Features and functions provided by the CMS were:

  1. patient record;
  2. appointment;
  3. waiting queue;
  4. consultation;
  5. document templates;
  6. lab test;
  7. drug prescription;
  8. dispensary;
  9. billing;
  10. inventory management; and
  11. management reports.

The CMS 3.0 was developed as an open source software (OSS).  IT professional and users from the medical sector could download the executable modules as well as the source codes from the websites of http://cms3.hkma.org.
