Social Service

The project developed an information portal to enhance the knowledge sharing among the social service sector.

The objectives of the project were:

  • Turning vast information to vast asset through establishing a portal with well-informed and researched advice for the sector to discuss social problems and needs, so as to facilitate knowledge sharing within the sector;
  • Enhancing the sector’s capacity by delivering effective and quality services that met the users’ needs, and mitigated social problems and concerns, and by providing hybrid reference information service which embraced the conventional paper information as well as electronic information for portal users’ planning;
  • Providing the social service sector with an open platform for knowledge sharing by making the records of discussion and policy papers more transparent and accessible to the sector while at the same time looking to strengthening the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) as a discussion platform for social service policy and advocacy through better circulation and tracing of records which contain ideas, vision, view and analysis;  and
  • Making the HKCSS’s vast information more visible and accessible by providing a tailored search capability for the social service information which resided in the HKCSS’s sizable repository in the website, file server and reference library.

The information portal served as a common platform to facilitate knowledge sharing in the social service sector.  It was opened to the social workers and other relevant practitioners in the social service sector without cost.
