Security
The project developed a tele-protection system (the "Security Cloud") with real time location-based communication via 3G or WiFi network for the security guard service industry.
With the use of the Security Cloud, the security guards only need to scan the QR codes placed at various patrol sites using a customised mobile app in their smartphones. Duty information is automatically transmitted to the control room via the 3G/4G or WiFi network for real time monitoring/recording and future analysis.
The objectives of the project are:
- To adopt ICT by making use of global positioning system (GPS), cloud computing and handheld devices to design an innovative teleprotection system for remote area within Hong Kong to manage the attendance, teleprotection, and safety of guards on duty;
- To develop a system based on guidelines of teleprotection of Security and Guarding Services Ordinance;
- To provide a cost effective cloud-enabled system to receive, store data and compilation of reports for management; and
- To enhance professional standard and competitiveness of security industry.
The Security Cloud was launched by the Chamber of Security Industry on 8 May 2014. The source code can be downloaded from their web site (http://www.csi.org.hk/).
