Two-year Enriched ICT Training Programme for the Elderly (2019-2021)

Background

To help elderly people keep abreast of the latest development of digital society, OGCIO launched the first round of Enriched ICT Training Programme for the Elderly to provide advanced training to elderly people to enhance their capability in adopting digital technology in their daily living. We also encourage elderly participants to pass on the knowledge they acquired to their peers.

Besides, through the Programme, we aim to help the elderly embrace the benefits of ICT adoption, strengthen their connection with the community and their self-confidence, thus bringing them a joyful and flourishing life in their golden years. Students can also take part in the voluntary work (e.g. serving as teaching assistants) of the enriched ICT training courses, to exchange digital living experience with the elderly and to foster harmony between the elderly and the youth.

OGCIO openly invited applications from Elder Academies (EAs) from August to October 2018. Eleven applications have been selected for implementation commencing from February 2019. To facilitate the elderly to continue their learning of digital technologies during the fight against COVID-19 epidemic, advanced digital training classes have been organised through remote learning. This round of the Programme was completed in August 2021 with over 3 300 elderly participants completed the training courses.

Target Beneficiaries

Elderly people aged 60 or above with basic ICT knowledge.

Courses Provided

Each funded EA provided different categories of ICT courses which cover E-government and Smart Healthcare, E-services for Smart Living and ICT Appreciation.
