To sustain the momentum in driving and incentivising ICT adoption in the silver hair community, OGCIO launched the Smart Elderly IT Star Awards in December 2013 to recognise those elderly who had made most effective use of ICT to create impact on their quality of life, on others and on the community. The Government commissioned the Hong Kong Society for the Aged to take charge of the award scheme.

A total of 115 nominations were received since the launch of scheme in December 2013, and from these the judging panel selected 12 Smart Elderly IT Stars. Also, "The Most Liked Story of IT Stars Contest" was organised at the Facebook theme page for voting by the public to identify three stories with the most ‘Likes’ after the announcement of results in March 2014. The awards presentation ceremony was held on 17 April 2014 at Conference Hall of Central Government Offices. About 500 people attended the ceremony.
