Over the years, the Government has been making targeted efforts to encourage wider ICT adoption among the elderly. In 2012, the OGCIO provided funding to support projects to improve elders’ access, knowledge, skills and receptiveness on the use of ICT.
Later in 2013-14 and 2015-16, two rounds of ICT Outreach Programmes for Elderly were organised to serve as an effective platform to let various elderly groups appreciate how ICT can enhance their quality of life. The first round and the second round of programmes were completed in December 2014 and August 2016 respectively. With the support from professional social workers and volunteers, these elderly persons received encouragement and assistance in adopting ICT to broaden their social circles and integrate to the community.
All these programmes were well received by the elderly beneficiaries. A new round of ICT Outreach Programmes for Elderly commenced in November 2017 and is now under implementation.
